Re: Looking for opinions on an Autograph
Apart from the fact that it looks as if it has been painstakingly copied, compared to one I have, there are two very significant differences. In mine: 1. The second loop in the first "D" in Donald does not intersect the downstroke 2. The loops in the "l" and "d" at the ...

Re: Technical Talk
Indeed they were. Grace under pressure I thinks it’s called. One occasion I recall was when they were both learning to fly at Shoreham, and Lew quietly persuaded a rather reluctant Ken to take my girlfriend and I up in the back of a Cherokee. Reluctant, because Ken was in the process of getting his ...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
Quite. I think it makes it look a bit of a hybrid. Easy to be picky but i think a Martin cupola (as per Vera) would have been better. I read somewhere that Richard Todd was also taught how to start a lanc and possibly taxi it during the filming of the Dam Busters, but with a qualified pilot sitting ...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
Am I right in thinking Just Jane now has a "proper" FN50 mid upper turret now Mike? If so, I wonder if it is the full gubbins or just the cupola, as it appears to be installed in the slightly more forward position as per the Martin turret normally fitted to Mk V11s, which I think had less ...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
[quote="Richie"]Interesting Mike ! I always thought that two engined birds had counter rotating engines for stability, weird seeing both engines in the same rotation ?! When can we do one of these then ? It's only ply wood after all 8-) I understand the torque induced as a result contribut...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
Alas, I've only ever been inside the Lincoln that was at Southend in the late seventies and recently uncovered the 35mm transparencies I took. This was the aircraft that succeeded PA474 testing a wing aerofoil mounted vertically atop the fuselage and was therefore turret less. Can't remember what ha...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
Sounds as though you are speaking from experience Mike - and I had you down as not a day over 70! Seriously, I did wonder whether they had sacrificed authenticity in the interests of elf & safety, as I have not seen any recent shots of the turret other than in the aft position, and wondered if i...

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
All very inpressive - but back to the Lanc - does anyone know how those clever chaps at BoBMF managed to shoehorn an armchair into the mid-upper turret? I've noticed from a lot of more recent footage that although the turret is facing astern, the occupant has his back to the guns which I would imagi...

Does that mean you've gone for the community interest company as opposed to charity wrapper Bill?

Re: Campbells Lake ......
Not familiar with Tilgate Lakes, but there was an article some years ago published in the Brighton Evening Argus and written by Derek Jameson (a neighbour of Lew's) which had Lew recalling testing a scale model on Hove Lagoon using the rear wheel of a bike as the motive power. However, Hove Lagoon d...
