I went to Paris on a school trip when I was a kid and remember being strapped in aboard one of those big hovercraft. It was bloody noisy and uncomfortable, as I recall. Did it though.

Not sure if this has appeared on this thread (apologies if it has) but
www.britishpathe.com/video/farnborough-air-display-5
shows XM691 in flight at Farnborough 1962. It appears at 00:39 to 00:42.
In 1964 XM691 was at Bristol Siddeley in the flight shed where it was used for Orpheus development, flight testing, photography and as a chase plane. It was a well used and well liked aircraft.
The latter information comes from a colleague who is a retired BS/RR employee who served apprenticeship at BS in the mid sixties.

The pic on the 1st page of XM693 isn't the original, that is G-TIMM when based at Cranfield & owned by Kennet Aviation.

I wish one of the airworthy Gnats would be repainted in the silver/dayglo orange as that is by far the best colour scheme they ever wore.

I have 1 of the Folland manufacturers models of the Gnat T1 in that scheme.

Hi - first post on here... I'm low on input, big on admiration for what the project is achieving. Great stuff!
Anyway - finally, after a long time lurk, I can contribute! :o
Here's 3 Gnats at once - posted on the keypublishing site today:

Thanks for the welcome Mike, that's most appreciated, as is the embedding of the video (couldn't work out how to do it).

By the way, as a matter of interest, and as this thread is about Bluebird related powerplants, I was reading the recent Aeroplane Illustrated 'bookazine' "Britsh X-Planes, the Jet Era" the other day and it stated in there that the Beryl that powered K7's earlier incarnation, pre-Orph, was actually one of the prototype jet fighter seaplane Saunders-Roe SR A/1 engines.
I did a search on this forum and it doesn't seem to have been mentioned anywhere as to where that engine came from? Is the source of the engine general knowledge?
Anyway, just thought it was an interesting snippet regarding the source for that engine.

That's two posts in just a few days - I might have 'peaked' for now...

Waffle,

Search for "TG263" to find an earlier mention in the forum.

According to this source, this photo shows exactly where K7's Beryl came from.

Ah - thanks for that, pmc. I felt sure that the knowledgeable folks on here would know, it's just that I couldn't find the reference.
That Beryl engine must have had an affinity to water!

Cheers.
