They're bloody awful things. It's like someone clashed a five bar gate on the front of all our hard work but they look like the old photos so they must be right...

Indeed they are, but in the interests of authenticity, you've made a proper job of them.Renegadenemo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 11:02 pmThey're bloody awful things. It's like someone clashed a five bar gate on the front of all our hard work but they look like the old photos so they must be right...

I can't help wondering if that canopy misted up on that cold January morning.

I think Campbell was way too much of a pro to allow that to have that happen and effect his ability to conduct K7. The images of the day don't point to it happening either.conistoncollie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 10:18 amI can't help wondering if that canopy misted up on that cold January morning.

Re: Pic of the Day
i can absolutely guarantee you without any shadow of a doubt that on a cold morning unless the pilot space was heated before an attempt the canopy would of steamed up even as it was drawn shut. The big fan behind may of helped but in my experience unless you go to some lengths to prevent it, that is a 2kw fan heater, a blanket and a thick down jacket over the canopy you cannot see sh1t till about halfway down the run and that includes trying to breath out through the rescue ports in the side of a modern canopy...I can't help wondering if that canopy misted up on that cold January morning.
once the motor had been lit then no problem, it’s not going to steam up for about 10 hours
Re: Pic of the Day
Not tried it in cold conditions yet, but it certainly gets rather tropical in there when it's warm; I spent a fair bit of time sat there as we fettled the canopy latch and it was getting a bit sweaty, with the canopy fogging up. And that was before I added the foam seals around the back and front edges!

Re: Pic of the Day
It was misting up on me tonight just sitting in there breathing while the malevolent old witch was thwarting us as usual. What was it Donald said about you never get it smooth? He wasn't kidding.
We've built a new HP air compressor for this trip and charged our start bottles but it doesn't have the same filtration system as the other one so we reckon it was slightly moist air that jammed open the pressure regulating valve on our offboard start system and vented it to zero. The letters FFS spring to mind...

Re: Pic of the Day
I realise this may be my own interpretation but to my eyes Paul Allonby's very clear photo, reproduced full page on page 99 of Arthur Knowles' With Campbell at Coniston shows the canopy misted up inside after a run, with a small hand-wiped area to see through.I think Campbell was way too much of a pro to allow that to have that happen and effect his ability to conduct K7. The images of the day don't point to it happening either.

Re: Pic of the Day
I believe that image shows the after effect's of Bluebird coming off plane - where Bluebird is totally enveloped in a bubble of spray for a few seconds. The water then clings to the body work and canopy making visibility very difficult. The attached shows K7 approaching the slipway taken just before the image to which you are refering was taken.conistoncollie wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 8:50 pmI realise this may be my own interpretation but to my eyes Paul Allonby's very clear photo, reproduced full page on page 99 of Arthur Knowles' With Campbell at Coniston shows the canopy misted up inside after a run, with a small hand-wiped area to see through.I think Campbell was way too much of a pro to allow that to have that happen and effect his ability to conduct K7. Would the old Fairy Liquid solution work? Certainly did the trick on my visor back in the day.
