Looks like I'll be having a brainy bits night, thanks for the info[.][.]
I'd actually thought of him smoking a tab with a smoke generator, so when the canopy opens smoke goes everywhere, a bit like Cheech & Chong

If it's just a typical motor, you can plug it into one of the channels on the receiver and it will open or close on one of the toggle switches on the transmitter. Bit like retractable under carriage for a model plane.

Its a stepper motor with limit switches it needs a driver board and micro controller to work but the micro controller can take inputs from the receiver
If it can't be fixed with duck tape it can't be fixed

you do know you could have got a micro servo (winch type) put a pinion on it and used that without anywhere near as much faff.

simply plug it in and go.

Interesting... Tricky material to weld. I used to do it in a glove box, basically a purged cabinet. At the very least it has to be back-purged as you go as it tends to catch fire! It pulls about like stainless too. Hate stainless with a passion!
Will be keen to see how the spars turn out.

Back to actuators

I use these at the moment, 6v work straight off an rc servo signal no programming.

100mm max stroke but you can fit it to a crank they are pretty strong and available at different ratio's

Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Post by midlife »

The guy I know welds a lot of titanium & has a good reputation at work, he's on nights this week so I'm struggling to bump into him, fingers crossed he'll make a decent job of them.
I had been looking for actuators like those since I saw a guy using them on YouTube to close the canopy on his model aeroplane, if I can't fit this one I know where to go for one, thanks for the tip!

I'll tell you what, it's amazing what's inside this blue foam if you rub it hard enough!

Out of interest so I can set the arms to the correct width, what diameter is BB's steering wheel?
I'm working out conflicting sizes from the various plans I have.
